weathersfield certified organics planting

A Brief History

The parent nursery was started in Kaukapakapa in 2002 by Pru and Roly Broughton. Roly died suddenly in mid 2002 and as Pru had bills to pay and wished to stay on the property, with the encouragement of her extended family, she approached East West Organics in Glen Eden, Harvest Whole Foods in Grey Lynn and Huckleberry Farms when they were in Green Lane, and asked if they wished to stock Weathersfield Certified Organic Herb Seedlings.

The answer was a resounding "Yes", and very soon requests came in from other retailers (including Mega Mitre 10) for us to supply certified organic vegetable seedlings and organic companion flower seedlings as well.

Pru did not wish to have a huge nursery where she would be trucking seedlings all over the country. She decided to franchise the brand. Her idea was that small growers could supply their local community, retailers and farmers' markets.

In October 2019, Pru decide to retire and wished to continue her business philosophy of local growers serving local markets. Bridgit and Steve Gibellini who have owned the Weathersfield Nelson/Marlborough franchise since 2010 now own the parent company. We are enthusiastic for people to embody organics and homegrown produce.
