Bridgit from Nelson

Hi, my name is Bridgit. We are owners of the Nelson Marlborough franchise as well as the parent franchise for Weathersfield Organics.

Our Weathersfield Certified Organic Nursery was started in 2010 in Wakefield, Nelson. After purchasing some land in Wakefield and pregnant with our third son we decided to earn some income around our lifestyle, as we developed an interest in what we and our children were eating.

We believe that growing your own organic vegetables is both great for your family but also really satisfying when you can serve up food that you have grown yourself. Also, contrary to some generally held beliefs organic products should be affordable and visually attractive.

With help from family, Steve managed to build me a shadehouse and I began planting. There was much elation when the first seedlings germinated – ‘Thyme’, and I realised perhaps I could do this. Our new adventure began.

Pak `N’ Save Richmond was the first retailer that we approached and they were keen to sell our product. This followed in quick succession with Mega Mitre 10, and Mitre 10 Motueka coming on board.

13 years later we sell 120 different seasonal varieties of seedlings through 11 stockists. We also produce our own compost and potting mix, which is available for sale to the public.
